As wild populations rebound throughout North America, some species are returning to their historic stomping grounds.  In Illinois, there have been several confirmed reports of black bears and cougars.  These animals have been visitors to the state, some of them have just been passing through; there is no evidence that these species have taken up residence.

If you think you’ve seen a black bear, cougar or gray wolf in Illinois, report it to University of Illinois and state wildlife biologists.  Use this form.
